452,829. Rotary engines. KNAPP, R. T., 2526, North Roosevelt Avenue, Altadena, California, U.S.A. Jan. 1, 1936, No. 76. Convention date, Jan. 16, 1935. [Class 110 (ii)] A rotary engine of the axially-sliding vane type has vanes 19 with sides tapering towards the periphery of the rotor 18, so that radial movement of the vanes in their slots automatically compensates for wear against the casing bore and on the faces of the cams 17. Inlet and outlet pipes 24, 25, lead to chambers 23, surrounding the working spaces ; the chambers are divided by radial partitions. These spaces communicate with inlet and outlet ports in the cam faces. The vanes may be laminated or solid, and may be disposed obliquely to the rotor axis, and also non-radially. They may be metallic or non-metallic. The rotor has axiallyextending hubs which are slotted to hold the bases of the vanes. The sides of the latter may be convex or concave.
