452,684. Cooling oil. HOLM, G. L. C., 57, Mariendalsvej, and KJAER, V. A., 10, Ellinorsvej, both in Copenhagen. Aug. 26,1935, No. 23850. [Class 29] Apparatus for cooling viscous oils comprises hollow-walled members 1, 2, 3 bolted together to form communicating oil chambers having scraping devices 7 consisting of arms carrying scrapers 8, Fig. 4, and mounted on a rotary hollow shaft 6. Cooling fluid enters the member 2 through the port 4 and, after circulating through the hollow walls of the members, leaves the apparatus through a port 5 in the member 3. The oil passes into the chambers through a port 14 in the member 3, and cooled oil is removed from the walls of the chambers by the scrapers and passes into the spaces 10 thereof and thence through ducts 11 into the hollow shaft which discharges the oil through a port 12 in the member 2. In a modification, the apparatus comprises a member 15, Fig. 5, having cylindrical coaxial walls forming alternate annular spaces for the cooling fluid and the oil and inlet and outlet ports 16, 17 for the cooling fluid, a hollow cross-bar 19 carrying the scrapers 18 and mounted on a rotary shaft 24, and a cover 20 having an oil inlet port 21 and an outlet port 23 through which cooled oil directed by the scrapers into the cross-bar is discharged.
