Abstract

452,514. Filling pies &c. CHRISTIANSEN, E., and ERICSSON, C. O., Food Machinery Works, Lifford Lane, Kings Norton, Birmingham. Feb. 26, 1935, No. 6098. [Class 28 (i)] A pie or like filling-machine comprises a discharge reservoir 5 to which liquid filling material is intermittently supplied from a main reservoir 6 and from which the liquid is released to fill a pie casing or the like by an intermittently operated valve 11. The pie casings may be in moulds 2 on an intermittently rotating table 1 and may be moulded by a tool 3 and then brought under the reservoir 5. The filling liquid is discharged from the main reservoir 6 to an upwardly-inclined conduit 4 entering the reservoir 5 below an outlet formed by a central tube 9. The valve 11 comprises a horizontal sleeve having a valve opening 13 and a stem 14 and is operated by a lever 15. The liquid is discharged through a neck 10a to a nozzle 20 which may comprise a cluster of tubes 21. A space 22 may be provided to allow the liquid to be equally distributed among the tubes 21. The lever 15 carries a pin engaging a slot in one end of a weighted lever 16 pivoted at its other end on the conduit 4. The lever 16 is raised by a bent arm 18 mounted on a reciprocating slide of the tool 3. The arrangement is such that the valve is opened while the tool 3 is descending and remains open for a limited period. The feeding of liquid is thus accurately timed and splash and drip are avoided.
