Abstract
450,986. Valve generating circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and ESPLEY, D. C., c /o General Electric Co., Ltd., Wembley, Middlesex. March 8, 1935, No. 7339. [Class 40 (v)] Relates to means for producing saw-toothed oscillations, of the kind in which a back-coupled discharge valve of the vacuum type is used, in place of the well-known gas-filled type, and in which the required saw-toothed waveform is developed by means of two coupled inductances one in each of the back-coupled circuits. U.S.A. Specification 1,913,449 is referred to in this connection. Fig. 1 shows a known circuit of the kind in which current from the input terminals 9, 10 charges up the condenser 4 through a pentode 8 until the positive bias across a resistance 12 allows the back-coupled valve 1 to start discharging. The resulting drop in voltage across the coil 5 induces through the coil 11 a voltage on the grid 13 which accelerates the discharge. Similarly a negative grid voltage is developed as the condenser 4 charges. According to the invention, the output terminal 7 is transferred from one plate of the condenser 4, as shown, to the grid 13. The second terminal 6 is then more remote, electrically, from the cathode of the valve. This has the effect of further " sharpening " the saw-toothed wave-form. In a modified arrangement, the condenser 4 is charged (and not discharged), by the anode-cathode current through the valve 1. British Specification 438,235 also is referred to.
