Abstract

450,963. Producing extensible slivers of artificial thread. GROVES, W. W., 30, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(1. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.; Frankforton-Main, Germany) Nov. 26, 1934, No. 33966. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (iii)] Wool-like extensible slivers of artificial thread are produced by feeding a sliver 1, Fig. 1, consisting of endless artificial fibres in parallel position between feed. ing and holding rollers 3 over a free path 4 to a heckle drum 6 and thence to an interconnected carding machine comprising, e.g. a breast roller 8, main drum 12 and doffer 17. The heckle drum 6 tears the endless fibres into different staple lengths, and the carding- machine delivers the wool-like crimped artificial sliver. One or more pairs of saw toothed guide rollers 5, Fig. 3, may be interposed between the feeding and holding rollers 3 and the heckle drum 6.
