449,078. Thermostats. DODSON, E., 66, Lewin Road, Streatham, London. Nov. 19, 1934, Nos. 33226 /34 and 2744 /35. [Classes 29 and 64 (ii)] [See also Group XXVII] A thermostat comprises a boiler a connected by a pipe c to a bellows d<1>, the thermostat being filled, when the bellows d<1> is in collapsed condition, with a liquid which vaporizes at a predetermined temperature. The liquid is expelled from the boiler a, after which no appreciable expansion takes place. The thermostat may be combined with an exhausted capsule g suspended by a ball joint g3 and connected adjustably at its lower end by a pin g5 to a slotted actuating lever h pivoted at h2. The lever h is also connected at h<4> to the bellows d<1>. The capsule g is exhausted and is adjusted by a screw g<2> to exert any desired push or pull on the bellows d<1> in order to compensate for the effect of changes of pressure due to altitude, on the thermostat. The thermostat may be used to control radiator shutters, to close them when the exhaust pipe cools. Another thermostat sensitive to the water temperature, may open the shutters.
