Abstract
448,537. Smokers' ash-trays; cigarette &c. extinguishers. BYWATER, L., 3, Putney Park Avenue, London, and PIPER, W. H., 75, Victoria, Street, Westminster. May 16, 1935, No. 14347. [Class 130] In an ash-tray provided with a standard 2 on which is pivoted a small invertible ash receptacle 5, the latter is formed as a tube with its ends inturned to form a seating for a metal ball or mass 6 adapted to move from end to end of the tube when the latter is inverted. As shown, the tube 5 is pivoted at 4 in arms 2<a> on the standard 2, which is coned at 3 to prevent lodging of ash at the base of the arms 2<a>. The device serves as an extinguisher for cigar or cigarette ends inserted in the tube. The standard is mounted in the tray 1 by means of a screw 1<b> having a hexagonal head fitting in a recess 1<c> in the tray. In a modification for use in a motor car, the tray is hinged to the side wall or dash of the car and the standard is hinged to the tray and held vertical by a spring, so that the standard can be turned down and the tray moved about its hinge into a recess in the wall or dash.
