448,083. Well packers. O'CONNOR, D. L. T., 1104, Medical Arts Building, Hot Springs, Arkansas, U.S.A. Oct. 31, 1935, No. 30094. Addition to 428,014. [Class 85] The well packer of the parent Specification is modified by the provision of means whereby when the packer is collapsed, the valve is maintained in an open position. As shown, the slips 28 and casing- engaging springs 24 are carried by a shell 23 connected to a sleeve 22 slidably fitted over the valve block 7. When the packer 32 is contracted, the sleeve 22 engages pins 35 carried by the valve 10 to hold the latter open. In another form, downward projections on the sleeve engage the pins 35 to hold the valve open and may be moved laterally to clear the pins to permit the valve to shut. In a further form, lugs extend upward from the valve to engage the sleeve. Below the valve is an apertured block 12 with an edge 16 for scraping deposits from the casing and a web 17 for deflecting the scrapings. In a modification, the scraping edge is formed by resilient knives secured to the block.
