Abstract
447,937. Coking processes; coke ovens. THWAITE, A. H., The Manor House, St. Helens' Auckland, Co. Durham. Feb. 23, 1935, No. 5879. [Class 55 (i)] The charge in a coke oven is heated by direct contact of hot gases generated by a burner below the oven chamber and entering the charge at a number of openings in the walls adjacent the floor, the distillates and heating gases being withdrawn through a number of outlets to the top of the oven. The charge in a coke oven a is heated internally by hot gases from a burner f which pass through a lower combustion flue e and damper controlled port m to an upper flue d from which graduated passages r lead into the oven chamber. The distillates and heating gases are withdrawn through graduated ports v leading into a flue u having at one end a port z communicating with an ascension pipe. Each passage r is turned downwards and inwards at s before entering the chamber, and the inlet ports t may be flattened. The passages r may vary in cross-section, the smallest passages being disposed adjacent the ports m, the ports u being similarly graduated in size.
