Abstract

446,393. Electrodeposition of rhodium. HERAEUS GES., W. C., Hanau-on-Main, Germany. Aug. 10, 1935, No. 22607. Convention date, June 4. [Class 41] Rhodium deposits of dark tone are obtained by employment of usual rhodium baths to which have been added sulphuric acid and an organic colloid such as gelatine or starch or benzoic acid or a benzoate or phenol or a phenolate. Specific baths to which the additions may be made include a solution of rhodium sulphate in boric acid, a solution of a double sulphate of rhodium and alkali metal, and a solution of rhodium hydroxide in hydrofluoboric acid. These are operated above 50‹ C. The deposits are lustrous or matt according to the surface of the foundation metal. Articles may be ornamented by coating in part with light and in part with dark rhodium deposits.
