Abstract

445,965. Vacuum cleaning-apparatus; dust filters. BOOTH, S., and BRITISH VACUUM CLEANER & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., Parsons Green Lane, Fulham, London. Dec. 28, 1934, No. 37203. [Classes 8 (i) and 8 (ii)] A vacuum dust-removal device especially for removal of ash &c. from ships' boilers comprises a number of filter chambers 1 each mounted on a housing 3 capable of air-tight closure and containing a removable dust collecting receptacle or bag 32 ; dust-laden air is drawn alternately through the remainder of the filter chambers while one is being cleaned. The filter fabric is folded into concentric conical portions 16, 17 suspended by hooks from a resiliently mounted ring 19. The dusty air enters by an axial metal cone 25, discharging the larger solids into the bag &c. 32 secured to the conical portion 30 of the filter chamber, while the partly cleaned air flows up through the filter bag. Valves control the connection of the chambers 1 with the suction hose and with the air suction pump. The vacuum in a chamber may be relieved by opening a valve 45 before opening the door of the corresponding housing 3 ; the doors are closed air-tightly by cams actuated by handles 40. The filling of the dust bag 32 may be indicated by electrical contact means operated by the weight of dust to give an audible or other signal. The suction nozzle may comprise a cone having air-holes in its surface ; Fig. 9 shows a nozzle for removing heaped material having a dust inlet 47, and a shield 49 for the annular air inlet 50.
