Abstract

445,903. Dies for moulding pies &c. HUGHES, J. W., 114, Bedford Road, Rock Ferry, Cheshire. Jan. 24, 1935, Nos. 2333 and 13881. [Class 87 (ii)] Apparatus for moulding dough and other plastic materials for making shells for receiving meat &c., comprises a die made with inner and outer displaceable members, the interengaging surfaces of which are of tapered form. Perforations or slits in the outer member lead to the air for destroying the suction effect between the plastic material and the outer member when the inner member is withdrawn relatively thereto. Fig. 2 shows a die in which the two members 16, 17 are resiliently connected by springs surrounding pins 20 attached to one of the members. The outer member 16 is perforated and the inner member is provided with lugs 18 for attachment to a machine for lifting the die from a mould containing the dough. Figs. 5, 6 and 7 show a modification in which the outer member of the die is made up of segmental sections 26, 27, 28, 29 which only partially surround the inner member which as shown in plan in Fig.. 7 has curved faces 25 at its ends and dovetail recesses 30 in the connecting member 24 which engage projecting tongues 32 on the outer sections 26 ... 29. The inner member has a ring 34 which is resiliently connected to a flange 33 of the same member by spring pins 35. Alternatively the ring may be connected to the outer member and springs located between the flange 33 and the sections 27, 29 of the outer member. The inner and outer members are connected by a bolt passing through the inner member and terminating in a plate beneath the outer member. When the inner member is retracted after the moulding operation the sections of the outer member move inwardly and at the same time the suction effect is destroyed by the gaps formed between the sections 26, 27 and 28, 29. In a further modification the outer member is composed of overlapping elements which completely surround the inner member and which contract when the inner member is withdrawn. The suction is destroyed by the gaps formed where the edges of the outer elements overlap.
