Abstract
445,902. Fusible cut-outs. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Jan. 8, 1935, Nos. 669 and 670. Convention dates, Jan. 8, 1934 and Dec. 13, 1934. [Class 38 (i)] A fuse element in a high - potential circuit comprises a portion of uniform cross-section of a length not substantially greater than is sufficient to cut out the limiting current, e.g. 15 amperes, determined by this cross-section, and a further portion of increased cross-section of which a sufficient amount melts on a heavy excess-current, e.g. 1000 amperes, to prevent persistence of the arc. The element may taper from both ends, Fig. 1, or be of step form, Fig. 2, or the portion of increased section may be formed by wrapping a wire 13, Fig. 3. The change in cross-section may also be produced by electrolytic reinforcement or weakening. The Specification contains a table giving suitable dimensions for an element of silver-wire for different values of current and potential.
