Abstract

444,775. Cathode-ray tubes. BOSCH, F. J. G. VAN DEN, 14, Normans Buildings, Central Street, London. Feb. 13, 1935, No. 4627. [Class 39 (i)] The plates of each of two pairs of plates for deflecting the ray horizontally and vertically are coated on their adjacent faces with a substance readily emitting electrons when slightly heated, for example, potassium or strontium oxide, lime, barium oxide, calcium iodide, calcium fluoride or caesium. The plates 5 .. 8 may be parallel rectangles or may diverge outwardly away from the cathode as shown, each plate being a rectangle bent about a line 11 so that the plates are parallel for one-third of their axial length. The plate 7 is earthed and the plate 5, a second anode 4, a first anode 3, a cathode 1 and a Wehnelt cylinder 2 are maintained at increasing negative potentials. Operating details are specified and it is stated that electrons from the cathode strike the plates and heat them and produce a secondary emission from them greater than the electron current to them, and that a very small fluorescent spot is produced on the screen of the tube. The tube may contain rare gas such as argon, neon or helium or gas of low molecular weight such as hydrogen.
