Abstract

444,253. Moulding and lining pipes &c. SPLATT, E. F. T., 16, The Avenue, Hampton, Victoria, Australia. Sept. 17, 1934, No. 26673. [Class 87 (ii)] Pipes, &c. are lined with or moulded from cementitious material by apparatus comprising a non-inflatable elastic core adapted to be stretched longitudinally to reduce its cross-sectional area, means for mounting said core within a pipe or mould, and devices for exerting pressure lengthwise of the core upon a sealing member to seal an end of the space surrounding the core. The cores 2 are of rubber or the like and are provided with a central bore 4 to accommodate a rod 6. One end of the rod 6 is held by a nut 12 on a wooden centring piece 8 which may be in the form of a solid block, Fig. 1, or of hollow cylindrical formation, Fig. 9. A rubber washer 13 is pressed against the end or a shoulder 9a of the pipe by the block 8. In the case of pipe bends, Fig. 1, a straight bolt 16 is screwed into the end of the curved rod 6 and is fitted with a nut 16a engaging a bracket 21 attached to the pipe fitting so that the rod 6 may be drawn tight. The core 2 projects from the end of the pipe so that it can be gripped by a clamp and a spring 24 holds it in place. When the rods 6, 16 are removed the core 2 may be withdrawn by the clamping member. In order to ensure a tight grip a plug may be inserted in the end of the bore 4. Fig. 9 shows apparatus suitable for moulding T- or cross-pieces. A major core 2b is fixed in position by a rod 6 and centring pieces 8 and one or more shorter cores 2c provided with. recessed ends which engage the core 2b are placed in the pipe branches 33 and project therefrom. The shorter cores 2c are held in place by rods 6a which are formed at their inner ends with reduced stems which screw into sockets in the rod 6. Cement is poured into the upper end 41 of the pipe and after the cores have been removed the square corners 42 of the cement are rounded off. During filling the fittings may be tilted or vibrated to remove air locks. As shown in Fig. 5, the centring member 8 may be held in place by clips 43. When moulding concrete &c. pipes the mould may be formed of two semicylindrical sections hinged together at one side and provided with fastening means on the other side.
