[Class 141] In a bust support, the breast pockets are attached to one another at a point above the line of maximum chest expansion so that they can, in effect, pivot on this point, and are interconnected at their lower, inner, ends by a resilient coupling which allows the thorax to expand during respiration. As shown, the overlapping breast pockets a, b are connected by stitching at c, and an elastic strap f attached to the point d or e of each pocket is arranged to button, if desired, adjustably, to a tab k on the other pocket. The support is completed by shoulder straps g and a band h with fastenings i. In a modification, the connection c is made by a button and buttonhole, and the straps f, connected to the outer extremities of the pockets, are passed, at the back of the wearer 1, through a ring, returned to the front, and secured to the other pocket. In another modification, the band h is continuous, and the strap f of the under pocket passes outwards through a slot in the upper pocket. In other modifications, the lower edges of the pockets are cut away at the points of attachment of the straps f, so that the tension of the latter is exerted in the line of the lower edges of the pockets. In other modifications, the inner extremities of the pockets are formed of elastic material ; or the extremities are coupled by a single elastic strap passing through rings on the pockets. In another modification, Fig. 7, the inner extremities d, e of the pockets a, b are formed with downward extensions q, which may be elastic, and which have a button-hole r, or an elastic strap, for attachment to a corset ; and the band h may be adapted for attachment to a corset. The extended lower edges of the pockets may be attached wholly or partly to the upper edge of a corset or belt. In the corselette shown in Fig. 12, the downward extensions q of the pockets extend laterally to the back and are secured to the lower part s by stitching. The bust support has an opening z in line with that of the lower part.
