[Class 31 (i)] [See also Group XVI] In a cutting-out press a plurality of blanks are cut out from a single sheet of cardboard or like material at a single stroke by a rule-tool cutter and are left attached to the waste by small lugs. The cutter moves to and from a cooperating platen in a straight line with a short stroke and the sheets are fed to and from the cutting station simultaneously by automatic feeding means. The sheets are fed from a storage station 1 to a positioning station 1a by suckers and thence to the cutting station 2 and delivery station 3 by grippers 4. The grippers are mounted on a reciprocating rod 6 and are moved to and from the sheets by a rod 5 mounted on oscillating cranks 7, 8. The rod 6 is connected to a reciprocating bar 11 by a pin on the rod engaging a slot in a sleeve 11a and urged to the middle of the slot by springs. The gripper jaws 4a, 4b are closed by a spring 14 and the upper jaw 4b is opened at intervals by a bar having an inclined part which co-operates with a fixed wedge to lift the bar against a pin 16 on the jaw 4b when the bar is moved. A spring 22 holds the sheet 21 in place during cutting. In the form shown in Fig. 8, a sheet from a pile 39 passes between guides 1d into a vertical position in which it is positioned by stops 1b, 1c controlled by cams 23, 28. After cutting, the sheet passes to the delivery station where it is seized by swinging grippers or suckers 33, 34 and moved into a receiving-box 40.
