[Class 141] [See also Group IX] A garment which may serve as a cape, apron, or rug comprises a body piece, at least one wing extending from one end of the body piece, at or near its upper edge, and a slot or loop located adjacent the other end of the upper edge for receiving the free end of the wing, and serving frictionally to hold the wing for retaining the garment in position on the wearer. The garment, Fig. 1, comprises a body piece 1 to which is secured a strip 2 so as to form wings 5, 6, a slot 9 being provided in the strip 2 at the root of the wing portion 6. The garment may serve as a cape either by employing the slot 9 as securing means, Fig. 2, or by tying the wings 5, 6, together, or securing them by button and loop means, or as a rug, Fig. 5, in which case the slot 9 is disposed at the rear of the wearer's waist. A pocket may be formed in the wing 6. In a modification, the wings 5, 6, may be formed by separate strips of material joined to the side edges of the body piece. In another modification, the body piece may be formed integrally with a wing part projecting from one of its upper corners which is adapted to be passed through a loop or loops sewn to the body piece at the opposite upper corner. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the garment comprises a body piece 20 and wing 21 which are fixed on one side with a strip of contrasting material 28, a loop 25 carrying a button 26 being secured to the body piece, and a loop 27 also being secured in the angle between the wing 21 and the body piece 20. The garment may be used as a cape either by passing the wing 21 through the loop 25, or as shown in Fig. 9, by folding the upper edge of the body piece 20 and wing 21 outwardly so that the material 28 presents the appearance of a collar, the wing 21 being thrown over one shoulder and the garment secured in position by means of the button 26 and loop 27. The garment may be made of at least two plies of material, or of double faced material, presenting two differently patterned and coloured surfaces, and may incorporate a ply of waterproof material. The proportions of wing width and length may be so related to the body dimensions that a plurality of garments may be cut from a rectangular piece without waste. The garment may be made with a hood permanently or removably attached to its upper edge.
