Abstract

A composition for covering floors and other surfaces, for making upholstery, and having acoustic and thermal insulating properties, comprises an aqueous dispersion of natural or synthetic rubber, cement and cork. The cement may be aluminous, hydraulic, or Portland. Casein glue may be added as a stabilizer for the rubber dispersion and mica dust or asbestos as a filler. Upholstery may be made by whipping a mixture of latex, casein glue and cement, pouring it over a loose mass of cork wool, and allowing the mass to set to a spongy, flexible mass; crystals of copper sulphate or sugar may be added to the mix and washed out after setting. An insulating block can be made by lining a rectangular mould with granulated cork or cork wool, and finally applying a layer of the composition to the upper surface.
