Abstract

440,223. Manhole covers. ROGERS, S. S., Grosvenor House, Somerset Road, Brentford, Middlesex. Dec. 17, 1934, Nos. 36142/34 and 13986/35. [Class 107] The two triangular sections A, A<1> of a rectangular manhole cover are each supported at three points, one support being provided by the adjacent section. In the construction shown, the supports are provided by projecting lugs C which fit into recesses D formed in the sides B. In a modification, one end of the side B of each section is provided with an upper projecting lug and the opposite end with a lower projecting lug, all so arranged that the two lower lugs fit beneath the upper lugs when the sections are assembled. The sections may be loosely connected by bolts or pins passing through the sides B and also through stiffening webs F. Recesses G may be provided in the sides B adjacent the pins, whereby the latter may be utilized in lifting the cover.
