[Class 130] In charging cigarette machines with cut tobacco, the delivery of the tobacco is initiated at regular intervals of time and maintained until a predetermined quantity has been delivered into the spreader of the machine. Tobacco to be fed to a spreader 2 of a cigarette-making machine 1 is drawn into a collecting tube 3 from a delivery table 7 by suction applied through pipes 10, 11 by an exhauster 12 when a spring- pressed hinged plate 14 is operated by a solenoid 25 controlled by a switch 23 in a relay 21. The relay 21 is in series with a switch 22 in a relay 20 which holds the switch closed as long as a switch 29 adjacent the collector 3, a manually controlled switch 30 and a switch 32 associated with the starting handle of the machine 1 are closed. The circuit of the relay 21 and switch 22 is completed at definite time intervals by contacts 17 which are closed by an electric clock 16, the relay 21 then closing the switch 23 and a 24 which short-circuits the contacts 17 to maintain the closure after these contacts have been opened and until the switch 29 is opened by an adjustable feeler 28 indicating that the collector 3 is sufficiently full. Opening the switch 23 cuts off the suction, a hinged gate 5 opens by gravity and the charge falls into the spreader 2. The time of charging may be reduced by opening the switch 30 or be increased by closing another manually operated switch 31 in parallel with the contacts 17. A second switch 19 operated by the relay 20 controls, in conjunction with the contacts 17, a signal light 18 and the switch 32 puts the device out of action when the machine 1 is not working.
