Abstract

Intaglio printing-inks are prepared by emulsifying solutions of resins in benzine hydrocarbons of high boiling point (130--180 DEG C.) and high flash point (above 30 DEG C.) with dyestuffs and water or aqueous dyestuff pastes, using as emulsifying-agents reaction products of high-molecular aliphatic or cycloaliphatic carboxylic acids or alcohols with alkylene oxides, polyglycols, or aminoalkyl or hydroxyalkyl sulphonic acids. The resin may be obtained from polybasic acids and polyhydric alcohols, colophony, or cyclohexanone, and the resin solution is added to the dyestuff paste triturated with the solution of the emulsifying-agent. According to examples: (a) a glycerine-phthalic anhydride-linseed oil resin dissolved in hydrocarbon is emulsified with Hansa Yellow GT paste, using as emulsifier a condensation product from oleic acid and ethylene oxide; (b) hardened colophony dissolved in ethylene glycol monoethyl ether and hydrocarbon is emulsified with Permanent Red 4R paste and the emulsifier used in example (a); (c) a resin obtained from a mixture of cyclohexanone and methyl cyclohexanone dissolved in hydrocarbon is emulsified with Milori Blue paste using as emulsifier the reaction product of ethylene oxide and stearic acid.
