439,487. Hydraulic transmission of power. BALDWIN, P. S., 2, Corso Regina Elena, Florence, Italy. April 30, 1934, Nos. 12996 and 12997. Convention dates, May 2, 1933 and Nov. 3, 1933. [Class 69 (ii)] [See also Groups XXXII and XXXIV] Means for effecting pressure between or relative movement of parts of a mechanism applicable to brakes and frictional shockabsorbers, comprises an elastic compression element and deformable mechanical members incorporated in or associated with the body of the compression element to assist in producing a longitudinal pressure. In the forms shown, the compression element consists of thick-walled rubber cylinders b, b<1>, Fig. 1, sealed together at their ends ; it may be formed of one piece cut or separated internally. When liquid under pressure is admitted through e<1>, d, the cylinders are laterally compressed against a bolt e<1> and a rigid casing a<1>, the end pressure acting to move the bolt so that its head e<3> causes the thrust plate f to apply pressure to the friction pack of a shockabsorber. The pressure may also be applied mechanically by a nut g. The element is provided with curved metal springs i, hinged levers l, Fig. 6, or angle levers m, Fig. 7, and preferably has a curved outer surface. Metal flanged washers k, k<1> are provided. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a form dispensing with the deformable mechanical members, and forms in which liquid pressure is admitted into the interior of compression elements as shown in Fig. 11 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
