Abstract

438,928. Road rollers. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (J÷nk÷pings Mekaniska Verkstads Aktiebolag ; J÷nk÷ping, Sweden). March 5, 1935, No. 6939. [Class 6 (i)] [See also Groups VIII and XXXI] In order that a road roller may be driven close to walls &c. and its centre of gravity may be low, part of the frame is supported onesidedly by the rear roller or rollers and the front end is extended along one side only of the front steering roller and is supported by one end only of the shaft of that roller, steering being effected through an arm projecting from one end of the shaft of the front roller. The frame may consist of a beam 1 rigidly connected to the shaft 5 of the rear roller 4 and movably connected to the shaft 3 of the front roller 2 by links 10 and pins 13, 14 arranged as shown. A projection between the rollers 2, 4 carries a motor 7 and gear box 8. One side of the rollers may be made heavier than the other, so that the centre of gravity of the whole machine may be in the central vertical plane. An arm 11 projecting from the shaft 3 carries a pivotal nut 17 into which screws a spindle 12 which is rotated for steering the roller 2. A link may be substituted for the spindle 12 and nut 17 to transmit power to the arm 11. The arrangement of the links 10 &c. is such that the frame tends to move towards the right when the steering-mechanism is operated. The steering roller 2 may be provided with a doubleacting scraper or with two scrapers. The links 10 may be connected to a part which is rotatably connected to the main frame so that the steering roller may be tilted laterally.
