May 7, 1934, No. 13715. [Class 135] [See also Group XI] A valve controlling a pilot burner is adapted to be opened momentarily in conjunction with the opening of the main burner cock by an axial movement of an operating element controlling the cock. As shown, the operating knob 2 of the cock 1 is slidable inwardly against the action of spring- pressed plungers 3, one at least of which has an extension 12 adapted to move a spring strip 8 and thereby open a pilot valve 7. Tne latter opens an axial passage 6 in the cock leading to a chamber 5 to which the pilot burner is connected. In a modification, the cock is slidable axially for opening a lateral byepass therein. Alternatively, the axial movement of the cock may be effected automatically during its rotation as by means of a quick thread worm or inclined plane and, in this case, the cock may be controlled from a distance.
