Abstract

Native starches are oxidized by treatment with aqueous solutions of free hypochlorous acid. Mixtures of hypochlorite solutions and equivalent quantities of acids stronger than hypochlorous acid, or aqueous solutions of salt-free hypochlorous acid may be employed. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes the treatment of aqueous starch suspensions and of starch preparations which have been pretreated by other means. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
