Abstract
436,144. Blasting-charges. TAYLOR, J., 7, Winton Circus, Saltcoats, Ayrshire, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. March 5, 1934, No. 7017. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] Relates to blasting cartridges of the kind comprising a casing containing a mixture of an alkali metal nitrite with one or more ammonium salts with or without other ingredients, said mixture being adapted to produce gas which is released from the casing when it has acquired a sufficient pressure, as described in Specification 431,935. According to the invention, granules of such a composition are mixed with an incombustible composition of the kind described in Specification 430,258 in powder or granular form, the proportions being such that the incombustible composition is substantially completely decomposed when the charge is ignited in a confined space. The incombustible component may be ammonium nitrate with or without other ammonium salts ; and a small proportion of stabilizers and inert materials may be added, such as sodium carbonate or bicarbonate, and French chalk or china clay.
