Abstract
435,212. Combined kerb and drain. PRESTWICH & SONS, Ltd., W., and JONES, R., Callywhite Lane, Dronfield, Derbyshire. May 26, 1934, No. 15719. [Class 107] A combined kerb and drain comprises a number of hollow kerb sections 1 having interengaging projections and recesses such as spigots 2 and sockets 3, the sections being spaced at intervals by drain boxes 1<a> leading to catch pits 12. The projections and recesses serve to align the kerb sections and drain boxes for the uninterrupted flow of water through the kerb. The drain box shown consists of two end walls 4 bridged by a portion 5 below which is arranged an opening 7 having a grid 8. The water and other matter entering the opening 7 passes over a surface 11 and thence to the interior of the kerb. The drain box may have a recess 10 for providing a seating for the catch pit cover, and the kerb sections may be similarly formed to support the paving flags. The catch pit cover may be hinged or it may be in the form of a loose paving flag; alternatively, it may be combined in one piece with the drain box.
