Abstract

A viscose sponge mass containing a fusible or soluble pore-forming substance is applied to a support consisting of cellulose or containing cellulose, such as paper, fabrics, or wood, so as to become united with the cellulose, and is then treated to produce the viscose sponge. Advantageously, the support may be first moistened with water, dilute alkali lye, viscose, or an alkaline substance. In this manner wooden articles may be enwrapped in, or lined with, the sponge. The process may be applied to the production of polishing cloths, window rubbers, mops with wooden handles, implements for cleaning plates or bottles, sponges having eyes or tapes for suspending them, spongy filter cloths, floor coverings, and in-soles. Specification 419,902 is referred to.ALSO:A viscose sponge mass containing a fusible or soluble pore-forming substance is applied to a support consisting of cellulose or containing cellulose, such as paper or fabrics, so as to become united with the cellulose, and is then treated to produce the viscose sponge. Advantageously, the support may be first moistened with water, dilute alkali lye, viscose, or an alkaline substance. The process may be applied to the production of spongy filter cloths.
