Abstract

434,712. Sand - blast; rumbles. SCHEMMANN, W., 116, Schwerterstrasse, Boele, and KOTTMANN, F., 31, Eppenhauserstrasse, both in Hagen, Westphalia, Germany. May 14, 1935, No. 14173. [Class 60] [See also Group II] A rotary drum 1 for cleaning and descaling castings 4 and the like is provided with centrifugal devices to inject the cleaning material through apertures 6 in the end walls of the drum. The drum is rotated by supporting rollers 3 and is enclosed in a casing 5. Each centrifugal device consists of two paddles 8 on a shaft 7 rotated at a high speed by a motor 13, and surrounded by shield boxes 12. The cleaning sand or other material is supplied through the pipe 9 and is flung centrifugally by the paddles into the drum. In a modification the end walls of the drum are formed by the stationary plates of its enclosing casing, and the openings for the injection of the cleaning sand are above the axis. The supply pipes for the cleaning material may be oscillated by means of connecting rods and a rotating crank disc so that the jets of cleaning material travel the length of the drum.
