[Class 60] A portable apparatus for honing the cylinders of the engines of motor vehicles in situ, comprises a bridge-like frame consisting of two side members a, b mounted on wheels c and connected by a cross tube or bar d upon which is mounted a split boss f to which is pivoted, by a screw g, a frame h carrying at one end a motor i driving, through universal couplings p and a gear box j, a spindle k. The spindle k is movable axially by means of a handle r counterbalanced by a weight or by springs r and pivoted on a frame s and engaging a collar t on the spindle, the frame s and collar r being movable around the spindle to allow of various dispositions of the handle r. The frame h may be set in various angular positions around the screw g and clamped by a threaded handle w, and the split boss is adjustable around and along the bar d and is clamped thereto by a threaded handle v on the screw g so that the axis of the honing-head m, which is driven from spindle k through universal joints n, may be set according to the inclination of the cylinder. Fluid is .fed from a tank y to the tool by a pipe z with swivel joints and taps 6 and a tray 7 for tools &c., is mounted on the bar d. Screws carried by the frame are screwed down to engage the floor during honing, to prevent movement of the apparatus.
