[Class 51 (i)] Ashpit scrapers adapted to be actuated by stoker mechanism or by other gear comprises a reciprocating frame 2, 3 carrying pivoted rakes 1 and supported in ball or roller bearings mounted on rails 5 secured to a trough 7 arranged beneath a furnace grate and into which the ashes are delivered. The frame may be reciprocated by the ram 17, Fig. 4, of a stoker, the ram being provided with an arm 16 engaging with collars 14, 15 on a rod 13 attached to the frame 3. When the ram has imparted to it long and short strokes, the collars 14, 15 are spaced apart a distance equal to the short strokes so that the frame 2, 3 is reciprocated only during the long strokes. The shafts 4 on which the rakes are mounted carry arms 11 which are interconnected by a rod 12. The shaft 4 of the rake 1 nearest the discharge opening 18 of the trough 7 is provided with an arm 19 which, when the frame reaches its extreme position to the right, engages with a roller 21 fixed to the vertical wall 20 and causes the rakes to be lifted. Simultaneously a pivoted catch 23 engages with the frame 3 as shown in Fig. 4 and retains the rakes in their raised position. When the frame is moved inwardly to its extreme position a stop 24 on the catch 23 engages with a projection 25 on the trough 7, the catch 23 is released and the rakes fall to their operative position. The ash-discharge opening 18 may be provided with a single counterweighted door or with a number of doors adapted to be opened in succession. Specification 432,878 is referred to.
