Abstract

[Class 82 (ii)] A machine for coating bodies with metal, particularly for coating the interior surfaces of hollow cylindrical bodies, comprises a support for the bodies to be coated and a metal spraying apparatus comprising a spraying nozzle and automatic means for simultaneously imparting rotary and pro gressive movements tc the nozzle. The blanks to be coated internally are placed over holes a<1> formed in a hollow support a on which is mounted a pillar b The spraying appara tus is carried by a slide d which can be raised or lowered on the pillar b, either mechanically or by hand, anc which can be clamped in any desired position. The slide d is formed with a dove-tailed horizontal guideway d<1> on which a slide h can be moved by means of a threaded spindle f engaging a nut g connected to the slide. The slide h is made integral with a plate h<1> formed with a vertical guideway i on which a slide l moves, the slide l having a projecting arm or table k on which is mounted a motor m. The slide l is moved by rotation of a spindle q engaging a nut q<1> on a bracket h<2> integral with the plate h<1>. On the lower end of the spindle q are rotatably mounted bevel gears p and p<1> which are engaged by a bevel gear o on a shaft n driven by the motor m. A coupling sleeve r is slidably mounted on the spindle q between the gears p and p<1>, the sleeve being formed with a groove engaged by a lever u which, as the slide rises and falls, strikes lugs t which are vertically adjustable on a rod s. On striking the upper lug t the lever u throws the sleeve r out of engagement with the bevel gear p into engagement with the gear p<1> and reverses the motion of the slide. The spraying nozzle y, which is supported from the table k and therefore reciprocates vertically with the slide l, is rotated from the shaft n through bevel gears w and spur gears x. By changing the gears x, the speed of rotation of the nozzle may be varied. The wire to be sprayed is fed by means driven by a motor running at constant speed, preferably the motor m. Air is drawn through the hollow bodies which are being coated by connecting an exhauster to the base at a<2>, or the pillar may be made hollow and the exhauster connected to the pillar. A plurality of spraying devices each comprising a slide h and the parts mounted thereon may be arranged side by side on the guide-way d<1> or a single slide h provided with a carrier having a plurality of spraying nozzles may be employed. The machine may be arranged horizontally, a plate being used instead of the pillar b.
