Abstract

432,169. Feeding webs. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET, Võsteras, Sweden. Jan. 25, 1935, No. 2507. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1934. [Class 100 (i)] Constant tension is maintained in material being unwound from a reel by a dynamoelectric machine 4 which is controlled to give or absorb constant power by variation of its excitation, the field winding 5 being supplied from an exciter housing a shunt field winding 8, and separately excited winding 9, and a winding 10 in series with the armature of the machine 4, The machine 4 may be a braking generator, as shown, the winding 10 being opposed to the windings 8, 9, or it may be a motor driving the reel, in which case the winding 9 is opposed to the remaining two. Rheostats in series with the windings 8, 9 serve to adjust the excitation strength of the exciter and the tension in the material respectively. In a further arrangement both braking and driving machines may be regulated as described.
