Abstract

432,062. Oil &c. cartons. JOHN, R., Hotel Roosevelt, 45th Street, New York, U.S.A. March 16, 1934, No. 8364. [Class 66] A carton or container for oil &c., comprises a laminated tubular body portion of fibrous material such as paper, the inner layer 171 of which is substantially impervious to oil, preferably consisting of parchmentized paper, and metal ends irremovably secured thereto. The body portion comprises three spirally wound layers attached together by glue or paste, the intermediate layer 18 being of wood pulp paper and the outer layer 19 of glazed waterproof paper. Before the metal ends are spun on, the ends of the tubular body part are dipped in a cellulose acetate solution of thick consistency. The metal bottom 2 and top 3 are preferably of tinned iron. The bottom has a filling aperture closed by a plug expanded into place, and the top has a discharge aperture 7 from which cuts 8 extend defining a tongue 10 which can be bent downwardly to enlarge the aperture for pouring. Beneath the aperture and the tongue is secured a strip or window 11 of nitro-cellulose film on which a gauge mark is made so that the volume of the contents can be observed without opening the container. A paper &c. spout 14 bearing printed matter and serving as a label is formed with tab portions 15 slidably encircling the container. The spout can be moved into extended pouring position as shown after breaking a seal 17.
