Abstract
431,906. Subaqueous audible and like signalling-apparatus. HANSEN, H. S., Box 650, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Dec. 18, 1934, No. 36237. [Class 118 (ii)] A receiver or transmitter is supported by a pivotal mounting so that it maintains its correct position irrespective of the rolling or pitching of a ship, and a sound-conducting plate is provided across the opening of the chamber in which the instrument is mounted. As shown, the instrument 5 is suspended from the ball-and-socket mounting 7, the leads to the instrument passing through the hollow suspending rod 32. The ball joint is lubricated through pipe 44 and ports 46 and air in the chamber 6 is taken off by vent 47. Water seeping into the upper chamber 17 is drained off by pipe 43. A rubber bumper 46<a> provides a resilient stop for the instrument during extreme rolling of the ship and springs 37 steady the motion and prevent rotation of the instrument. A sound plate 48 is mounted across the opening of the well 6, the plate being insulated from the supporting brackets 50 by rubber gaskets 51. Sufficient clearance to allow sea water to enter the well is left between the plate 48 and the wall of the well 6.
