431,285. Vehicle hoods. OVERTON, W., 10, Marsh Street, Walsall. April 6, 1934, No. 10434. [Class 108 (i)] In a hood of the kind in which the hoop-sticks are guided in horizontal guideways arranged on the cantrails and in which the hood covering extends down the sides towards the cantrails pairs of toggle links are indirectly connected with the hoop-sticks to cause the latter to rise bodily as they approach the folding or collapsing point so that the hood material lying between the hoop-sticks is raised well clear of the passengers' heads. The hoop-stick attachment member is pivoted at n to a bracket m having a part carrying a vertical slot o in which a connection pin p of the toggle links c, d works. The inner end of the pin p projects into the channel guides a which together with the guides q house the operating chain or cable. Additional links j, k connect the bracket with the toggle links c, d and the other ends of the links c, d are pivoted to the sliding blocks g arranged to slide in the guides a. Adjacent to the parts of the guides wherein in collapsing, the hoop-sticks are intended to rise are arranged cam brackets n, v against which the pins contact and are pressed upwards out of the guide a, gaps s, t in the upper wall of the guide a being provided at these points. In collapsing the hood the rearmost pin p is lifted by the cam u, v at the desired point through the gap s and further movement of collapsing raises the hoop-stick by means of the toggle links c, d as shown, each hoop-stick being in turn lifted as it arrives at the desired position carrying the hood material with it. In extending an extension x of the link c contacts with a stop y and turns down the toggle links c, d so that the pin p enters the guide a again.
