[Class 28 (i)] Curtain - forming means for coating goods with chocolate or the like comprises a delivery pipe or conduit 6, extending transversely of the travel of the goods and provided with a slot 11 in the upper part of its wall through which the chocolate wells up and overflows or. to an inclined plate or apron 12, 15 from the lower edge of which the chocolate falls freely as a curtain on to the goods. The width of the slot 11 is variable by adjusting either or both of the plates 8, 9, and the longitudinal extension of the apron may be adjusted by releasing the screws 16 and sliding the part 15 to a new position in which it is again clamped. The apron, in the vicinity of the slot 11, is curved to form a rounded weir-like lip 13, and the margins of the apron are flanged at 14 to confine the chocolate. The inclination of the apron may be varied by providing a pivotal mounting adjacent to the slot 11, or the pipe 6 may be capable of limited rotation. The chocolate is admitted to the pipe 6 at one end, and the opposite end of the pipe may be closed, but, to prevent chocolate from solidifying in the pipe, it is preferred to ensure a continuous circulation through the pipe 6 by providing a valve controlled return pipe. Also the pipe 6 may be provided with an internal rotating stirrer or worm to keep the chocolate moving. The apron may be provided with temperature regulating means, e.g., an electric heater or a water coil may be mounted on the underface of the apron.
