430,559. Moulding wood pulp. FAHRNI, J., 12, Goldauerstr., Zurich, Switzerland. Sept. 24, 1934, No. 27357. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1933. [Class 87 (ii)] [See also Group VIII] In the manufacture of hard plates of wood pulp, pressure of a few atmospheres is applied by platens 23, 24 on a moving carriage, to a web 29 formed on an endless screen 19, 21 by a suction cylinder 2. The cylinder 2 adjacent the vat 1, comprises two fixed discs on a non- rotating shaft 3, the discs each having at the periphery a segmental chamber 5 exhausted through a duct 6 and communicating with longitudinal cells covered by the travelling screen 19, 21, &c. and on a framework driven by internal spur gearing 15 &c. accessible via 17, suction in the cells being released by an opening 12. The press carriage is driven forwardly from the gearing 15 by rack gears &c. and at the forward limit the suction platens 23, 24 open automatically, the rack being disengaged and the return run effected quickly by springs, vacuum cylinders, &c.
