Abstract
430,405. Drilling - machines. MAIN, Ltd., R. & A., 48, Grosvenor Gardens, Bucking- ham Palace Road, and STUTELY, W. H., Gothic Works, Edmonton, both in London. Jan. 21, 1935, No. 1990. [Class 83 (iii)] A multiple-spindle drilling-machine of the vertical-standard type has an overhead bearing block in which the parallel spindles are rotatably mounted and driven by a single transverse worm shaft which engages worm teeth on the spindles, the latter being supported in bearings above and below the worm teeth and having thrust blocks at their upper ends. The vertical standard 44 supports a block 11, Fig. 3, and brackets 16, 17 secured to this block carry the drilling spindles 23; these are provided with adjustable thrust races 32 and the drills are guided in a fixed jig-plate 47. Each drill spindle has formed integral with it a small worm wheel 24 and these are all engaged by a single worm 40 on a transverse belt driven shaft 37. The latter drives through worm gearing a vertical shaft 64 which in turn drives through pick-off gears a transverse cam shaft 61 ; this shaft may also be turned by hand. A cam 59 on the end of the shaft engages a roller on a bracket attached to a vertically slidable work table 49 for the work feed movement. The bracket also carries an adjustable bolt 58 which when moved upwardly serves to close the jaws of a work-holding device, (not shown), further upward movement when the jaws are closed over the work giving upward feed movement to the table, when no work is present the table does not rise.
