Abstract

In the production of mixed fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus and lime by decomposing crude phosphates with acids, e.g. nitric and/or phosphoric acid, the acid decomposition solution so obtained is introduced together with ammonia into a considerable amount of the acid decomposition solution already neutralized with ammonia, in such proportions that the solution always reacts neutral or slightly acid. The resulting product which may have a pH of 4-6 may be treated with further ammonia in order to bring the pH to 6-7. The temperature may be such that water is evaporated by the heat of neutralization. Potash salts such as potassium chloride may be added at any stage of the process. The resulting melts may be granulated by spraying and any residual water then removed by drying. Examples are given.
