Abstract
429,491. Thermal switches. ANGELI, A., Papierm³hle, Berne, Switzerland. Dec. 14, 1934, No. 35935. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal switch comprises a metal casing 1 having a metal cap 10 and an insulating lining 3 in which is placed a fusible cartridge 11 having end caps 12 one being in contact with the cap 10 and the other in contact with a metal pin 4 urged upwards by a spring 5, and insulated from the casing 1. The cartridge 11 comprises a cylinder of fusible substance such as a cellulose product or horn, and having end caps 12 connected by a heating wire 13. The device is connected in circuit by means of a spring urged member 14, the current flowing through the pin 4, wire 13 and casing 1 which is held in a contact clip (not shown). On overload the heat of wire 13 melts the cartridge 11 which softens and deforms under the action of pin 4 and spring 5 so that the member 14 is released and breaks the circuit.
