429,441. Sewing-machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., Belgrave Road, Leicester, and GOODWIN, A. H., 60, Kingsley Avenue, Kettering, Northamptonshire. Nov. 30, 1933, No. 33549. [Class 112] A work edge guide for a sewing-machine, particularly one forsewing a shoe toe-cap to the vamp, has a portion adapted to bear resiliently upon one of the two workpieces being sewn together to guide the edge of the other workpiece, the guide portion being joined by an integral springy portion to a part secured to the presser foot. A guide strip 18 is connected by a springy portion 24 to a plate 16 shown adjustably secured to the presser foot 10 of a two needle stitching machine. The guide 18 accommodates itself to differences in thickness of the material to be guided and prevents damage to the finished edge. Fig. 4 shows a modified guide with a springy part 70 formed in the upper plate. Both the upper plate and guide are notched at 78, 80 to clear a needle working close to the edge. The guide is particularly suitable for toe-caps having a finished edge formed by searing as described in Specifications 26300/12 and 193,936, [both in Class 16].
