Abstract

428,682. Golf practising appliances. BRERETON, F. S., Heath Barn, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire. Aug. 11, 1933, No. 22446. [Class 132 (ii)] A golf-practising appliance of the kind comprising an inextensible cord having a ball secured to one end thereof and attached at its opposite end to one end of a resilient cord or spring is characterized in that the attached ends of the said cords are also attached to one end of a second inextensible cord, means being provided for securing to the ground the opposite ends of the second inextensible cord and the resilient cord or spring. The appliance comprises a wooden hinged batten or stand 1 having secured to a hook 2 at one end an indiarubber cord 3 of rectangular or circular crosssection or a spring connected to an inextensible cord 7 adjustably secured to the eye 8 at the other end of the stand 1. An inextensible cord 10 secured to the ball 11 is attached to the cord 3 by an extensible or inextensible ring 9 and its effective length is adjusted by the cleat 12. A slider 13 is adjustably secured to the cord 3 and slides along the rail 14 to actuate the indicator 15 also slidable on the rail 14. The indicator remains in the position to which it has been moved by the slider 13 until reset. In a modification, the cord 3 may have attached to it a cord or chain wound around a pulley or spindle on which a spring or weight controlled hand or pointer is fixed for effecting movement of an indicator. The cord 3 may operate a pneumatic system for actuating the indicator at a distance. The cords 3 and 7 may have short inserts of inextensible and extensible material respectively. The batten 1 may be secured to the ground at its ends by U-shaped pins, or the ends of the batten may be provided with metal fittings 16, Fig. 4, having a leg 17 hinged thereto to fold within a recess in the fitting, or an eye plate can be rotatably secured to the batten and can have an aperture to receive a pin, or a hole 18 can be formed in the fitting 16 and batten 1 to take a pin or screw, or the ends of the batten may be furnished with suction cups for adhesion to a floor. The batten 1 can be made in two or more parts connected by a hinge or hinges 19, Fig. 2, and recesses 20 can be formed to form a ball pocket when the batten is folded. Cleats 21 may be provided around which the cord 7 can be wound. The Provisional Specification describes some modified constructions.
