[Class 83 (iv)] In a machine for straightening and cutting wire D, a slide 34 pressed by a spring 35 carries a wire straightening device 7 and feed rollers 17. A cam 20 and lever 33 move the slide backwards during each cutting operation, at the speed of the wire, so that the wire remains stationary relatively to the cutters. The cutter is mounted on a lever 28 actuated by a cam 19. The wire is fed through grooves 24 in a guide roller 38. When the end of the wire contacts a rod 51 a rod 53 is displaced to engage a one-revolution clutch on the power shaft 12. Arms 23 allow the cut lengths to fall to a rack 60.
