[Class 103 (i)] [See also Group XXVI] The speed of a motor is maintained constant by a centrifugally operated brake comprising weights 14 pivoted to a plate 11 slidable upon the motor shaft 10 and loaded by the spring 17, the arms 15 of the weights engaging a fixed abutment 16. As the speed increases the plate 11 engages a friction plate 19 slidably mounted upon the driven shaft 20 and loaded by a spring 21. Further increase of speed causes engagement between the plates 19, 23 producing a braking effort. The speed at which the braking effort commences is adjusted by altering the position of the plate 23 through links 30, 31, 32 connected to the spindle 36 of the means for controlling the input to the motor. A spring 27 loads the plate 23 through link 25. The rods 31, 32 are arranged to cause suitable adjustment of the plate 23 for either direction of rotation of the spindle 36. In a modification the plate 19 is omitted and the friction surfaces are provided on plate 11 which is extended to provide a rigid coupling between the shafts 10, 20.
