Abstract
426,164. Looms with stationary weft supplies. TEFAG TEXTIL FINANZ AKT.- GES., Zurich, Switzerland. June 12, 1934, No. 17390. Convention date, June 17, 1933. [Class 142 (ii)] A gripper shuttle is provided with a weft clamp that is operated by the insertion of an external member into the shuttle body. In the form shown, the body 1 of steel has a lead insert 8 and is provided with a cavity adapted to receive a spring steel clamp 4 having a looped inner end slidable on a pin 10. In use, the clamp is closed to grip the weft by impact with a fixed part, thereby moving the clamp into the recess as shown in Fig. 5. To release the weft 13, a wedged member 9 is moved transversely through a slot 11 in the shuttle. The jaws of the clamp may be formed separately on spring strips. In another form, the jaws of the clamp are spring-pressed towards each other. The shuttle body may be a flattened octagon in crosssection. In some cases, a weft clamp is provided at each end of the shuttle.
