Abstract

424,772. Puzzles; game apparatus. COCKS, T. W., 59, Canadian Avenue, Catford, London. Aug. 18, 1933, No. 23126. [Classes 132 (ii) and 132 (iii)] A jig-saw puzzle has one or more representations A, B, C, D, E, F, the parts 3, 4, 5, 6 of one representation being interchangeable with similarly shaped parts, for example, of other representations to form different representations, such as F, having distorted features. For playing a game the parts of the puzzle are provided with inscriptions, pictures, words and/or letters, and a die is provided certain of the facets of which bear corresponding inscriptions, &c. The representations A, B, C, D, E, are photographs or prints of a flat or semi-flat tone without shadow effects and may be mounted on a base of cardboard, wood, thick paper, rubber or metal. Parts of the puzzle can be removed from position by a suction device or resilient cup or by a magnet when the puzzle is made of tin, steel or other metal. The background may or may not be out in the manner of a jig-saw puzzle and the parts of the puzzle may or may not be arranged to interlock. The background of the puzzle may be cut so that pieces are shaped to represent different animals or the background may include representations of eyes, noses and mouths which can be interchanged with the equivalent parts of the representations A, B, C, D, E, and F. Interchangeable parts may be provided separately for substitution in the puzzle. Each representation may be of circular, rectangular or octagonal shape. The representations may be in relief and the rear side of the puzzle may have a further set of representations or another jig-saw puzzle. In the example shown the centres of the eyelid openings in one representation correspond in position with the centres of the eyelids openings in the other representations. This is accomplished by utilizing a mask or screen, Fig. 2, of ground glass and by re-photographing the original photographs with a focusing camera, the eyelid openings being arranged to be coincident with a transverse line 7 on the screen. Alternatively the screen may comprise a sheet of glass or transparent paper and the photograph may be projected on to a screen. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 416,997.
