424,560. Filters. SEELEY, F. G., The Strands, London Road, Copdock, near Ipswich. May 23, 1933, No. 14854. [Class 46] [See also Group XXVIII] A cylindrical filtering or straining element E divided by radial partitions into segmental sections, and having its ends closed by plates E2, E<3>, each having apertures corresponding to each section, is mounted on a spindle D between fixed end plates B, C, in a casing A. Fluid to be strained enters the casing through a passage Z and passes inwardly through the strainer. The plate B has a recess B' communicating with an outlet X for the strained fluid and a projection B<1> which closes the aperture in the plate E<2> corresponding to one of the segmental chambers. The plate C has apertures C2, C3, C<4>, C<5>, Fig. 4, and a chamber C<1> giving communication from the apertures in the plate E<3> to an outlet X<1> for strained fluid. A vane J<1> carried by a sleeve J within the chamber C<1> can be reciprocated by means of a lever L to force fluid backward through the section which has its opposite end blocked by the projection B<1>, the lever at the same time rotating the spindle D and element E by means of a pawl and ratchet, so that a scraper F removes solid matter from the segment which is being backflushed and another segment is brought into position for cleansing.
