Abstract

424,526. Pneumatic tyres. WINGFOOT CORPORATION, 1144, East Market Street, Akron, Ohio, U.S.A. Dec. 7, 1933, No. 34430. Convention date, March 25. [Class 144 (ii)] A tyre-bead reinforcement is formed by first coating a wire or like inextensible core with raw or partially - cured rubber, applying a wrapper of rubber or rubbered fabric which has been at least semi-cured, the vulcanization and shaping being completed after assemblage in the tyre cover. As shown, a core 10 formed by helical windings of rubber-covered wire 11 is enclosed in a helical wrapping of rubbered fabric 13 having an outer skin coating 14 of slow-curing rubber compound and a relatively-thick inner coating 15 of fast-curing compound. Fig. 3 shows the consolidated form of the core, with its flipper-strip, in the finished tyre. In a modification, the core-wrapping consists solely of layers of fast- and slow-curing rubber compounds.
